Thiruvathirai Kali | Thiruvadhirai Kali
The traditional Thiruvathirai Kali is a sweet recipe prepared with raw rice & jaggery and served as prasadam during Thiruvathirai viratham.
Thiruvathirai is an auspicious day especially celebrated for Lord Shiva. Fasting is held on that full day and later in the evening when the moon arises we break the fast after offering to the god. The next day is for the darshan of lord Natrajar(dancing form of Lord Shiva) called “Arudhra darisanam”. Only after the darshan, the viradham gets fulfilled. After the long full first day fast, to give instant energy this Thiruvadhirai Kali or adai is first taken. As this is made of rice and jaggery, we get carbs as well as sugar immediately.
Like thiruvadhirai Kali some families make thiruvathirai adai, which is also an equally important dish. According to me, this Thiruvadhirai Kali is easier than adai.
In addition to this special sweet, “Thiruvathirai kulambu” or ezhu Kari kootu or kulambu is also made, in which a minimum of seven to a maximum of 13 kinds of vegetables used.

- Now mix again continuously so that the jaggery is well absorbed into the rice.

Tips:
1) Always use jaggery to make this sweet. If you have pure jaggery then you can directly use jaggery powder instead of liquid jaggery.
2) The powder should be of rava consistency, which is not too coarse or too fine in texture.
