Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • Aval/beaten rice – 1 cup(240ml)
  • Jaggery powder or sugar – 2 tsp
  • Coconut grated – ½ cup
  • Ghee – ½ tsp
  • Salt – a pinch
  • Cardamom powder – ¼ tsp

Instructions

Preparation:

  • Wash and soak aval in water for few mins until the grains become soft. The soaking time differs for different types of aval. Thin light variety may not need soaking at all. Just wash and drain them. Here I used thick variety.
  • The soaked grains should be soft and separate as shown in picture.
  • Grate coconut.
  • If you are using jaggery for sweetness powder and keep. Try to use pure jaggery.

Recipe:

  • Take a bowl, add soaked aval. Add all the other ingredients one by one.
  • Jaggery powder/sugar, ghee, salt, grated coconut, cardamom and ghee.
  • Mix together gently.
  • Ready to serve as breakfast or snack.

Notes

Tips/notes: 1) This sweet aval is almost like sweet rice puttu. 2) I recommend jaggery powder over sugar for this recipe. 3) If jaggery is not pure then make thick jaggery syrup, filter and add it to the mixture. Syrup should be thick made of very less water else the recipe will become watery.
