Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • 4 small Radish (white or red)
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp gram dal
  • ½ tbsp urad dal
  • 8 red chillies (as per taste)
  • 4 garlic pods
  • 1 gooseberry size tamarind
  • ¾ tsp salt (as per taste)

Instructions

Preparation:

  • Clean, peel and chop the radish into small pieces.

Recipe:

  • Heat oil in a flat frying pan.
  • Add the radish pieces and saute well for few minutes. It takes at least five minutes in medium heat to saute and cook the radish.
  • Since Radish has lots of water content, just saute in oil is enough to cook them.
  • Fry the vegetable until they become soft and transparent.
  • Transfer the vegetable from the pan to separate plate and let them cool down.
  • Now add a tbsp of oil to the same pan and add gram dal.
  • Also add red chillies, garlic pods, and some urad dal.
  • Fry everything to golden brown color.
  • Now switch off, let the mixture cool down a bit.
  • Add tamarind and salt required for the chutney.
  • Now take these in a mixer grinder jar, give a quick grind.
  • Add the separately kept radish pieces, grind everything together into a thick chutney.
  • No water needed to grind.
  • Serve with hot steamy rice topped with ghee or gingelly oil and simple papad.
