Banana Sheera | How to make Banana sheera
Banana Sheera is a sweet recipe made from rava / semolina/sooji, sugar, and banana along with ghee. This banana sooji halwa is a pudding-like sweet prepared for festive occasions or prasadam recipes or simply for a sweet breakfast. We can even serve this banana Sheera as a dessert.
This banana Sheera is a common Prasad recipe made during Satyanarayana Pooja, Janmashtami, Laxmi Puja, and Dussehra or for any auspicious occasions.
As we are nearing Diwali in a few days, I decided to post this simple and super quick beginner’s sweet recipe. Make this wonderful sweet with one of the easiest and tastiest available fruits nothing but a banana.
Let us see a few health benefits of this kid’s friendly fruit banana:
- Banana is an excellent source of potassium, which is a vital salt for a healthy body and a high potassium intake is associated with the 20% decreased risk of dying from all causes.
- Several studies found that children who ate 1 banana per day had 34% less chance of developing asthma.
- Consuming bananas can help combat the formation of free radicals known to cause cancer as these Bananas are a good source of vitamin C.
- Apart from potassium and Vitamin C, banana also has vitamin B6, magnesium, Copper, Manganese, carbs, protein and a good amount of fiber which is vital for healthy digestion.
- Bananas can help moderate blood sugar levels after meals and may reduce appetite why slowing stomach emptying. However, this may not apply to people with type 2 diabetes who should probably avoid eating a lot of ripened bananas.

Banana Sheera | Sooji halwa with banana
Ingredients
Ingredients:
- 1 cup rava/sooji/semolina
- 1 big banana (or 2 small bananas)
- 4 tbsp ghee
- 2 tbsp cashew nuts
- 3 cups water
- 4-6 tbsp sugar (as you like)
- ½ tsp cardamom powder
- 1 pinch salt (optional)
Instructions
Preparation:
- Take one big ripe banana or two small Bananas, peel and chop into small pieces.
Recipe to make banana Sheera:
- Heat ghee in a wide non-stick pan.
- Fry cashew nut pieces in ghee for 3 to 4 minutes until you get light brown color.
- Now add rava and start frying the rava in ghee in low medium flame for 5 mins.
- Do not increase the temperature and don't let the rava to change its color. You will get a nice aroma from the fried sooji, now add the banana pieces and mix with Rava.
- Pour 3 cups of water for one cup of Rava gradually. Stir the rava and banana with water continuously to avoid lumps in medium temperature. Add water slowly and gradually so that you will get time to mix.
- Rava absorbs water instantly and gets cooked in few minutes. If you like you can close and cook for 2 minutes.
- When the rava is fully cooked and absorbed all the water add sugar. Adjust the level of sweetness according to your preference. For one cup banana Sheera, I use 4 tablespoons of sugar. If your banana is of sweeter variety then you can reduce the sugar quantity.
- Around after 10 minutes in total, the sheera will be ready and leaves the pan as shown. Now add cardamom powder and a teaspoon of ghee at last.
- Serve as breakfast or dessert or festival sweet or prasadam on occasions.

Tips:
- Use well-ripened Banana for making this sheera.
- You can use brown sugar or jaggery powder instead of sugar if you like.
