Mint rice is a kind of mixed rice prepared by sauteeing steamed rice with cooked mint paste and other spices.
As you may know, Mint rice is a flavorful and instant dish which you can make quickly in just 15 minutes. This is an excellent lunch box item when packed with a good vegetable side fry or simply papad/potato chips.
During this Dussehra, you can make this simple mint rice and offer as prasadam to God.
Mint has an abundant amount of Vitamin C and iron content which is the essential requirements for a healthy body.
We can make multiple variety of dishes with this excellent aromatic herb like Mint Chutney, Mint thuvaiyal, mint roti, mint dosa, and can be used in the preparation of tea, juices, soups, rasam and many more.

Ingredients
Ingredients:
To grind:
- 1 cup fresh mint leaves
- 3 big green chillies
- 2 inches Ginger piece
To season:
- 3 tsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard
- 1/2 tsp jeera
- 1 big onion
- 1 tomato
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp salt
Instructions
Preparation:
- Cook rice separately and let it cool down.Do not cook mushy.Grains should be separate.
- Wash one full cup of tightly packed mint leaves.
- Chop onion and tomato.
- Peel ginger and keep ready.
- Recipe to make mint rice:
- First of all, take washed mint leaves,ginger and green chillies in a blender, grind them into a puree.keep it ready.
- Heat oil in a kadai add mustard and jeera seeds.
- When the mustard starts spluttering add chopped onions and saute them.
- Add turmeric and salt required for the rice.
- Now add chopped tomato and cook until soft.
- Add the ground mint green chillies paste and mix with masala.
- No need to cook for long time after adding mint as the vitamin C will be lost.
- Just saute for two to three minutes and add the cooked rice.
- Mix the rice gently with the masala so that the grains absorb mint flavour fully
- Keep in low flame, close with a lid and leave for 5 minutes.
- Mint rice is ready after five minutes.
- Switch off, open the lid and serve with potato fry, Papad, chips or simple onion carrot raita.

Tips/ Notes:
- Do not cook mint more than 5 minutes.
- You can adjust green chillies count to suit your spice needs.
- Do not cook rice very soft and mushy for any type of variety rice recipe.
