Avocado salad is a healthy butter fruit salad with refreshing cucumber, crisp sweet onions, tomatoes, and lime. Try this simple salad to start your day deliciously healthy.

Butter fruit is the common name of this super-soft fruit Avocado and the name implies everything about it. Avocado is the only fruit that contains a high amount of healthy monosaturated fatty acids, which in turn helps lower blood cholesterol, keeps the heart healthy and many more.

This avocado salad is one crisp and refreshing salad with all the goodness of cucumber, spinach and tomatoes. When all these refreshers combined in one bowl with our super butter fruit it is pure bliss. There are always a few questions hang on like, how to cut the Avocado and How to use Avocado in diet and of course how to choose/buy avocados. I have addressed all these questions as far as I know from my experience.

Avocado milkshake is the other favorite butter fruit recipe in my kitchen. The silky-smooth shake is very simple to make. Without extra cream or ice cream, this magic fruit will taste heavenly with simple milk and sugar.

How to choose Avocado:

If you wish to use the fruit immediately in a salad or shakes, choose already ripen fruit. When I was first introduced to Avocados, I didn’t have any idea on how to choose and will end up always buying the hard green ones. And I had to wait for them to ripe.

Always buy the butter fruit by checking the following.

The skin should be of a light brownish color and not bright green.

When you press or squeeze, you should not feel the hardness and if it is soft to touch all the sides it is a perfect one to use immediately.

At the same time over ripen avocados may get spoilt in two days with lots of black spots on the skin and too squirmy to touch. Avoid extra ripen avocados if you plan to do salads as they may not hold shape while cutting.

  • 3 ripe Avocados
  • 1 Cucumber
  • 1 large cup of Spinach leaves
  • 1 Tomato
  • ½ cup onion
  • Salad dressing:
  • ½ Lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • ½ tsp Pepper powder
  • ½ tsp Salt

Preparation:

    How to cut Avocado fruit:

    • Hold the ripe avocado and cut vertically around the seed like this.
    • Open into two vertical halves.
    • Remove the seed with a spoon and scoop the pulp using the spoon.
    • Collect the ripe pulp from both the halves, chop roughly and use it in the salad.
    • As these butter fruits are delicate, handle gently without mushing them.

    Recipe:

      Avocado salad dressing:

      • In a small bowl take juice of a half lemon.
      • Add a tsp of oil preferably olive or coconut oil.
      • Put salt (1/2tsp) and pepper powder (1/2tsp) as per taste.
      • Mix with a spoon and keep this salad dressing ready.
      • You can use a pinch of chat masala if you wish.

      How to make butter fruit salad:

      • In a large salad mixing bowl, take gently chopped ripe avocado pieces.
      • Add cut cucumber (1 cup) pieces.
      • Also, add your preferred salad veggies.
      • I like to add tomato and onion.
      • Put some fresh palak leaves. I use baby spinach and if you use big leaves you can chop them.
      • Now add the salad dressing mix and combine well using a rubber spatula.
      • Or toss the salad contents gently and serve immediately.

      Tips:
      1) Choose firm but ripe avocados for making this salad.
      2) If you wish add few crushed mint leaves for the burst of flavor.
      3) You can sprinkle few chopped nuts for crunchy bits in the butter fruit salad.
