Pasiparuppu sambar | Instant moong dal sambar recipe for dosa
Pasiparuppu sambar is a simple and easy recipe prepared as a side dish for idli, dosa and other tiffin items.
This is a super quick sambar, which can be prepared in just 15 minutes thus an apt one for the busy mornings. Pasiparuppu sambar or yellow moong dal sambar tastes great with crispy dosas, try it once and it will become a regular recipe in your kitchen. This tastes great with phulkas and chapatis too.
Moong lentils are the healthiest of all other dal varieties because of its high qualities. Moong Dal is one of the vegetarian superfoods and an essential part of the Indian cuisine.
Few health notes on the Yellow Moong dal (Pasiparupu):
Yellow moong dal is extremely light and easy to digest as well as easy to cook. Compared to other dals moong dal is one of the low carbs pulses available. Moong dal is a good source of protein for vegetarians.100gm of cooked moong dal can provide 24gm of protein. It is very much suitable for patients and young babies with low digestion capability.

Pasiparuppu sambar | Instant moong dal sambar recipe for dosa
Ingredients
Ingredients:
- 1 cup yellow moongdal (pasiparuppu)
- 1 tomato
- 2 green chillies
To temper:
- 1 tbsp oil
- ½ tsp mustard
- ½ tsp jeera
- 2 red chillies
- 1 big onion
- 4 garlic pods
- Few curry leaves
- ½ tsp hing
- ¼ tsp turmeric powder
- ½ tsp sambar powder
- 1 tsp salt
- Few coriander leaves
Instructions
Preparation:
- Wash and soak yellow moong dal just for ten minutes.
- Add chopped tomato and green chillies.
- Pressure cook with enough water for 3 whistles until soft.
- Mash and keep ready.
Recipe:
- Heat a tablespoon of oil in a kadai, add mustard and jeera seeds.
- When they start spluttering, add chopped onions, crushed garlic, and curry leaves. You can use chopped ginger if you like.
- Saute onions to a transparent state. Add hing.
- Now add turmeric and sambar powder.
- Pour the mashed moong dal and mix with onion.
- Add some water to adjust the sambar consistency.
- Now add required salt. Cover and let the Sambar boil for five minutes until froth settles down.
- Finally, garnish with coriander leaves.
- Serve with crispy dosa, idly, Adai, pesarattu, Venpongal, Medhu vadai.

Tips/notes:
1) Pasiparuppu tends to cook fast hence two or three whistles in a pressure cooker is enough to cook.
2) You can add ginger if you like while sauteeing with onions. Since I use garlic I do not use ginger.
