Sweet aval | Coconut jaggery aval | Sweet avalakki
Sweet aval tastes same like rice puttu but the preparation of this one is very quick and simple.
Aval also called as beaten or flattened rice is one of the popular recipes all over India. This aval is enjoyed widely because of its humble properties. Poha /aval is loved by all because it is easy to cook, easy to digest, also easy to make different varieties. Aval or beaten rice is good for weight loss too.
This sweet poha recipe is a super quick under 15mins breakfast /snack item for kids. Also this is a no cooking recipe yet yummy one. This sweet aval or sweet poha can be offered to god as prasadham on special days.

Ingredients
Ingredients:
- Aval/beaten rice – 1 cup(240ml)
- Jaggery powder or sugar – 2 tsp
- Coconut grated – ½ cup
- Ghee – ½ tsp
- Salt – a pinch
- Cardamom powder – ¼ tsp
Instructions
Preparation:
- Wash and soak aval in water for few mins until the grains become soft. The soaking time differs for different types of aval. Thin light variety may not need soaking at all. Just wash and drain them. Here I used thick variety.
- The soaked grains should be soft and separate as shown in picture.
- Grate coconut.
- If you are using jaggery for sweetness powder and keep. Try to use pure jaggery.
Recipe:
- Take a bowl, add soaked aval. Add all the other ingredients one by one.
- Jaggery powder/sugar, ghee, salt, grated coconut, cardamom and ghee.
- Mix together gently.
- Ready to serve as breakfast or snack.

Tips/notes:
- I recommend jaggery powder over sugar for this recipe.
- If jaggery is not pure then make thick jaggery syrup, filter and add it to the mixture. Syrup should be thick made of very less water else the recipe will become watery.
